Foodies Newsletter 14/02/2016

 Welcome to the fortnightly Cornish foodie newsletter from Kernow Eats. An especially warm welcome to the many of you who have signed up in the last couple of weeks. The format of the newsletter changes between editions but in general it covers updates about Kernow Eats, events that we’ve attended, foodie news and upcoming foodie events.

Updates

Farmers’ market map – The latest addition to our website is a map of all of the farmers’ markets in Cornwall. As with the farm shop map we hope that it enable both locals and visitors to #eatlocal and #shoplocal. You can see the map here and we’d love to know what you think and if we have missed any out.

Pop-up events – We are working on some exciting ideas for pop-up events across the county in the coming months. The idea would be to give the opportunity for more people to try some of the excellent streetfood that is going on across the county through a series of evening events. We are on the lookout for interesting suitable venues for these evenings and if you are interested in being involved please let us know on kernoweats@gmail.com.

Events we have attended

 We were lucky enough to attend another excellent sushi evening with Naoko’s Kitchen. These sessions will be continuing monthly but Naoko is also doing a (sold out) Japanese supper club on 28/02 at Hooked in Truro and a Pork Ramen & Gyoza night on 31/03 with Potluck Cornwall.

 We attended the Social Dining Network tasting menu dinner at Olivers in Falmouth. It was a really quite exceptional meal bursting with beautifully balanced textures and flavours. The Social Dining Network’s next event is a rum tasting and dining event on 23/03 at The Brig, Falmouth.

News

Restaurant Chapter 1, the newest addition to Newquay’s dining scene will be doing a taster menu every Wednesday evening. 6 courses for £35pp.

We have nominated Fal Oysters and Treway Farm Turkeys in the “from the sea” and “from the land” categories respectively of the Delicious magazine produce awards. It would be great to get recognition for these and other great Cornish producers so get your own nominations in too. See details of the awards here.

The Indulge waffle house in Truro has introduced an intriguing challenge event. A triple decker waffle, loaded with various toppings, finished off with one of their cream topped milkshakes. £9.99 to enter. Each month the person with the fastest time will win a free waffle voucher and will be put forward to compete for the Indulge waffle eater championship in the summer.

There is another new Cornish farmers market to be aware of. The Newlyn harbour farmers’ market takes place at The Centre, Lower Chywoone Hill, Newlyn on Wednesdays from 10am – 2pm.
